Training packages available to organisations from a range of leading providers including Makaton, ICAN and ELKALN. These can be tailored and costed to your individual requirments. Please get in touch for a tailored package.

LEVEL 1 TRAINING

Level 1 training is the starting point for learning Makaton. It is recommended for:

  • Parents, family members, carers and workers who need to use Makaton at home and in their work
  • Participants who need a more detailed knowledge about using and applying Makaton to develop the communication skills of othersothers


Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations. 


Duration

  • Two modules circa 4 hours each

LEVEL 2 TRAINING

Level 2 training builds on the knowledge you gained in Level 1 training.


You will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4 and the rest of the Core Vocabulary.

  • Two modules circa 4 hours each

  • Participants must have attended Level 1 training.

MAKATON TASTER SESSION

If you are not sure whether Makaton training is for you, try a Makaton Taster session.


These short sessions are designed for people who who are interested in finding out about Makaton before deciding to attend Makaton training.


The Taster gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is and who uses it, with the opportunity to learn a few signs and symbols.

MAKATON FOR BABIES

Makaton Signing for Babies is a fun and easy way to learn to sign with your baby.


Signing while speaking has been shown to encourage the development of communication and language skills.


It can help reduce frustrations and help you to understand your baby’s needs and wants.


Makaton Signing for Babies is provided as a series of sessions for you and your baby. Together you will learn up to 100 signs and have fun practising them in songs, games and activities.

TALKBOOST SERIES

I CAN's Talk Boost is the perfect catch-up programme for children struggling with delayed language.

EARLY TALK 0-5 YEARS

Early Talk is I CAN's highly successful training and accreditation programme aimed at the early years workforce in partnership with parents to support the communication needs of children from birth to age 5.

PRIMARY TALK

Primary Talk is a whole-school programme that helps teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs and school staff identify and support the communication development of pupils aged 4 to 11, including those with SLCN.

TALK FOR WORK

Talk for Work helps students aged 14 to 18 with poor communication skills to be ready for the workplace. Teachers, teaching assistants and SENCOS are trained to deliver 13 one hour lessons.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR 0-3s

A externally accredited evidence-based course that will equip you to develop the key communication skills in children proved to ensure later success in school. This is aimed specifically at preventing speech and language needs developing in babies and young children.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR 3-5s

An externally accredited evidence-based course that will equip you to develop the key communication skills of ALL children to ensure later success at school. It also provides essential strategies to support children learning an additional language. This is aimed specifically for those of you working with children aged 3-5 years.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR 5-11s

A practical training course for those teaching or supporting children in primary schools who want to develop the speech and language skills of ALL children - including those who are a bit behind with their speech and language. This could be for a range of reasons, including learning English as an additional language (EAL).

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR 11-16s

A practical training course for those teaching or supporting young people in secondary schools who want to develop the speech and language skills of ALL pupils - including those who are a bit behind with their speech and language. This could be for a range of reasons, including learning English as an additional language (EAL).

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR Post 16's

A practical training course for those of you supporting young adults, to enable them to maximise their speech, language and communication potential. If you are a learning support assistant, teacher, tutor within an FE college or a carer in a residential setting working with post 16s, then this course is for you.

FOR PUPILS WITH SLD

A practical training course for those of you working supporting children and young people with severe learning difficulties (SLD) to provide new approaches and strategies to help them maximise their speech, language and communication potential and effectively differentiate the curriculum. If you are a SENCO, teacher, teaching assistant or speech and language therapy assistant, then this course is for you!.
